Allagash Wilderness Waterway June 2025 Day 5

The final night of our 2025 trip turned out, as predicted, to be a wet one.  Preparation is key when it comes to dealing with inclement weather and we all woke up dry.  Funny story though, one of the teens on the trip got his socks wet the day prior and laid them out next to the fire to dry, he just happened to lay them a little too close and they caught fire.  I pulled them out and he never knew they caught fire.  Much to his surprise there were charred holes in his socks the following morning!

The last morning was damp and drizzling, so we packed up quickly and hit the river early.  We knew we had a long day of travel ahead of us, so we cooked up everything we had left for breakfast and filled our stomachs.  Thankfully we got moving early and quickly to cover the last few miles down to Michaud Farm as we got stuck on several shallow gravel bars along the way.  The last few miles of river is wide and shallow with a good steady current, unfortunately in low water, the numerous gravel bars make for challenging navigation in low water with our canoes often getting stuck.  Thankfully there are only mild rapids and no real danger to Michaud Farm.  As we arrived, we checked out with the ranger, and began loading up the truck for the five hour ride back to the original meet-up location.  Just in time I might add, as we started driving the rain came and everyone was happy to be off the water!  Can't wait for our trip coming up this June 24-30 2026, hope to see you out there!
